- The True Value of Giving
Katherine Hepburn writes this in her own words. "Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. That family made a lasting impression on me. There were eight children, all under the age of 12. From the way they were dressed, you could tell they didn’t have much money, but their clothes were clean, very clean. The children were well-behaved, standing in pairs behind their parents, holding hands. They were so excited about the clowns, the animals, and all the acts they would see that night. From their excitement, you could tell they had never been to a circus before. It was going to be a highlight of their lives. The father and mother stood proudly at the front of their little group. The mother was holding her husband’s hand, looking at him as if to say, 'You’re my knight in shining armor.' He was smiling, enjoying seeing his family happy. The ticket lady asked how many tickets he wanted, and he proudly responded, 'I want eight children’s tickets and two adult tickets.' Then she announced the price. The wife let go of her husband’s hand, her head dropped, and the man’s lip began to quiver. He leaned in closer and asked, 'How much did you say?' The ticket lady repeated the price. He didn’t have enough money. How was he supposed to turn around and tell his eight kids that he couldn’t afford to take them to the circus? Seeing what was happening, my dad reached into his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill, and dropped it on the ground. We weren’t rich by any means. My father bent down, picked up the $20 bill, tapped the man on the shoulder, and said, 'Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket.' The man understood what was happening. He wasn’t being handed charity, but he gratefully accepted the help in his desperate, heartbreaking, and embarrassing situation. He looked straight into my father’s eyes, took my dad’s hand in both of his, squeezed the bill tightly, and with trembling lips and a tear streaming down his cheek, he replied, 'Thank you, sir. This really means so much to me and my family.' My father and I went back to our car and drove home. The $20 my dad gave away was what we had planned to use for our own tickets. Although we didn’t see the circus that night, we felt a joy inside us that was far greater than seeing the circus. That day, I learned the true value of giving. The Giver is greater than the Receiver. If you want to be great, greater than life itself, learn to give. Love has nothing to do with what you expect to get, only with what you expect to give—everything. The importance of giving and blessing others cannot be overstated because there is always joy in giving. Learn to make someone happy through acts of giving." - Katharine Hepburn [Luk 6:38 ESV] give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you."
- Blessed are the Merciful
Matthew 5:7 KJV — Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. To have mercy on the afflicted is a core belief of our Faith. All of us have been & are going through troubles that are out of our control. This must happen. Without the affliction there is no way the prideful nature of ourselves can be stripped back. Without the affliction there can be no mercy that we can show to one another - it is compassion. Jesus showed many instances of Mercy, one in particular was Bartimaeus who received his sight after calling on Jesus for mercy (Mark 10:46-52) "by Faith he called for Jesus , by Mercy Jesus delivered his sight." A compassionate, merciful God could only do this for sinners like us. The Good Samaritan ( Luke 10:30-37) was also merciful to a man who had been stripped & robbed , & left for dead on the side of the road. The priest , the Levite had passed by him & ignored his plight. The Good Samaritan (which the the Jews despised of the City of Samaria) stopped & had compassion on him, dressed his wounds , & found an Inn where he could rest & recover. Yeshua's teaching on The Good Samaritan reflects what this Beatitude is about. Luke 10:36 KJV — Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? Luke 10:37 KJV — And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. "If you sow Mercy you will reap Mercy." Make this a daily thought, on our Journey to be like Christ Jesus 🙏❤️
- The Raven & The Dove
When Noah was at sea during the big flood he released two birds, both of significance in their actions. The Raven. [Genesis 8:6 KJV] And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: [Genesis 8:7 KJV] And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. The Raven did not come back. Now there is someone else who is like the Raven. [Job 1:7 KJV] And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. Job 1:7 was repeated again in Job 2:2 - emphasis..... "To and fro" The Dove [Genesis 8:8 KJV] Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; [Genesis 8:9 KJV] But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters [were] on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. [Genesis 8:10 KJV] And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; [Genesis 8:11 KJV] And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth [was] an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. [Genesis 8:12 KJV] And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more. The Spirit of God like a Dove. [Matthew 3:16 KJV] And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: The Raven an abomination. [Leviticus 11:13 KJV] And these [are they which] ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they [are] an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, [Leviticus 11:14 KJV] And the vulture, and the kite after his kind; [Leviticus 11:15 KJV] Every raven after his kind; [Leviticus 11:16 KJV] And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind, With these scriptures in mind , please look at the attached videos. As an adjective, raven refers to a lustrous black color. But as a noun, a raven is also any of several larger birds of the genus Corvus, of the family Corvidae. (Crow also) Noted also: [Job 38:41 KJV] Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat. [Matthew 5:45 KJV] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. As a footnote , "to & fro" is quite worthwhile searching in the Bible. There is some interesting context.
- Iron sharpening Iron
When we discuss the Word , there are some foundations we should be aware of. Maintaining our "edge" is a twofold path. [Proverbs 27:17 KJV] Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. sharpeneth = ḥāḏaḏ = to be sharp, be alert, be keen If edges collide they will gouge each other...... To Alert one another resonates with me. But something else I have discovered by looking into how swords are sharpened. Even though "iron honing iron" is great for maintenance, true sharpening comes from a "stone" If honing is done correctly you will prolong its edge. In ancient times, metal scraping tools were usually the most consistent and effective options for shaping something as thin as a cutting edge. You can use a sharpening/honing steel on any regular bevelled blade to prolong the cutting experience in between regular resharpening on a stone. To prolong the cutting experience "between" use of the blade/sword it is recommended to regularly resharpen on a "stone" Who is the "Stone the builders rejected?" [Matthew 21:42 KJV] Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? Hone your understanding with Brethren But most of all: Maintain your faith with the Stone ! Jesus Christ 🙏♥️ John 14:6 KJV — Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
- Blessed are they that Mourn
The Beatitudes part 2 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4). How can mourning be blessed? When it is for the needs and hurts of others! Our mourning is blessed when we are moved with a tender heart and compassionate spirit for the lost and those who suffer. Bob Pierce, the wonderful missionary who founded both World Vision and Samaritan’s Purse, once prayed, "Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God!" That’s the kind of mourning about which this verse is speaking. And without it, it is almost impossible for us to give comfort-or to receive it. Do you remember Jesus’ story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 30-35)? A traveler was attacked by thieves who robbed him, beat him, and left him for dead by the side of the road. A priest came by and then a Levite, but they passed by without helping him. Then a Samaritan saw him and had great compassion on him. He gave the man first aid, put him on his donkey, and carried him to an inn. There he paid for the man’s care. Perhaps the priest and the Levite felt pity for the unfortunate man, but they passed by. Pity says, "Oh, that’s terrible. I’m so sorry." But the Bible says the Samaritan had compassion, which mourns with one’s suffering and says, "Here, let me help!" During His earthly ministry, Jesus certainly demonstrated compassion to people everywhere He went. He once ministered to a crowd of 5,000, and when they became hungry, He fed them all. When He saw sick people, He healed them. When He saw lost sinners, He loved them. Do you see the pattern? Pity costs nothing. But compassion feeds, heals, and loves! Have you ever needed to be comforted? Is there a chance you will ever need it again? That blessing comes only to those who weep and mourn for the suffering of others...and give until it helps.
- Blessed are the Meek
The Beatitudes part 3 Matthew 5:5 KJV — Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessing comes to those with a gentle spirit and a calm attitude. Meekness is not weakness-it is the kind of strength that remains calm in the face of calamity. It is the person who can confront someone who has done wrong and keep his emotions under control, reaching out as a gentle servant of the Lord to lift up and restore the fallen. Jesus sent His disciples out to minister, telling them to be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16). Have you ever heard the voice of a dove? Their singing may be soft and soothing, but it is persistent. The voices of doves will not be hushed. The wisdom of the Lord enables us to deal with problems, with opposition, with the pressures of the world in meekness-not with anger and violence, but with gentle strength. Meekness toward God is that disposition of spirit in which we accept His dealings with us as good, and therefore without disputing or resisting. Knowing there is a purpose for what we are going through helps us to endure without dispute. Jesus did not dispute or resist as he was bought before the Pharisees with accusations raised against him. Calmly he spoke the truth, knowing the Father's purpose in his sufferings. Gentleness or meekness is the opposite to self-assertiveness and self-interest. It stems from trust in God's goodness and control over the situation. The gentle person is not occupied with self at all. This is a work of the Holy Spirit, not of the human will (Gal 5:23). In the OT, the meek are those wholly relying on God rather than their own strength to defend against injustice. Thus, meekness toward evil people means knowing God is permitting the injuries they inflict, that He is using them to purify His elect, and that He will deliver His elect in His time (Isa 41:17, Luk 18:1-8). I believe we need to be different from the world. In the midst of the rush, let’s not forget to be gentle and have time for people. I believe once more we can experience what Solomon described-The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land (Song of Solomon 2:12 NKJV). Walking in the gentle strength of meekness, we shall inherit the earth.
- Blessed are the Poor in Spirit.
The first part of The Beatitudes, also referred to as The Sermon on the Mount, is about having more than the right attitude. "Be Attitude" Jesus Christ spoke to many gathered before him on the Mount, these instructions are the cornerstone of how a Christian walks today. [Mat 5:3, 37 KJV] 3 Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Each of the beatitudes begins with the word blessed, which means "to be highly favored, honored, or set aside." It speaks of the deep soul contentment that comes not from what we experience as much as who we are. I want to be blessed, don’t you? In this first Beatitude, I believe "poor in spirit" refers to humility, the authentic attitude of the heart that recognizes it is absolutely nothing-poor-without the Lord. It is the kind of spiritual poverty that is overcome only by total dependence upon Christ. At the same time, the person who is truly poor in spirit also recognizes that everything is his because of God’s great gifts. Jesus demonstrated true humility when He knelt down and washed the feet of His disciples (see John 13:3-9). I can hardly imagine the God of this universe kneeling to wash the feet of these men, including Judas; the man Jesus knew would betray Him. This kind of humility comes only from the Lord. The gospel account says that Peter’s initial reaction to the humility of Jesus was to refuse to allow his feet to be washed. But Jesus said, "If I don’t wash you then you have no part with me." So impulsive, reactionary Peter then pleaded, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head." Maybe the essential point of this whole exchange was the Lord’s declaration that experiencing His humility is essential to relationship with Him. If we don’t have that kind of humility, we have nothing. But if we experience it, we are blessed...and the kingdom of heaven is ours! What an amazing promise. All Glory & Honor & Power to Jesus Christ.
- Religious ? Are you ?
Many people who are religious know nothing about salvation. Religion is of human origin, and it almost always requires that we do something. God’s salvation, however, is entirely His work on our behalf. It requires absolutely nothing, since God has already accomplished all that is necessary. Our part is to simply accept it by faith. The greatest spiritual truth of all is what God has done to redeem us from our sin. By giving His Son to die in our place, God has paid the price of our sin and is able to save us from the bondage and dissatisfaction that comes with it. I believe one of the reasons so many people, so many religious people, are dissatisfied is that they perceive religion as something we do for God. But true peace begins when we accept what God has done for us! The Bible says, For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8,9). You see, if salvation were something we could earn for ourselves, it would only contribute to our pride, for when we earned salvation, we would have much about which to brag and boast. If we are to receive salvation from our sins, we must receive it as a gift, not as a meritorious award for service. [Rom 3:10, 23 KJV] 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: ... 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
