Counting the omer

Have you ever heard about counting the omer? I know, what's an omer right? It is a Biblical word used for the measuring of a bundle of unthreshed grain. After Passover, the priest will lift up the omer and wave it before the Lord. This kick starts the beginning of the Feast of first fruits. From that day forward, we are instructed to count up to 50 days which leads to the day of Shavuot/Pentecost. So we are now at day 35 of the omer count, soon approaching Shavuot/Pentecost. It was during this time, that Yeshua was resurrected and spent time with His disciples before He ascended into heaven. What did His disciples ask Yeshua before He ascended? [Acts 1:6 NKJV] Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” [Acts 1:7 NKJV] And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. [Acts 1:8 NKJV] “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” The Omer is counted every evening after nightfall, from the second night of Passover till the night before Shavuot/Pentecost.

Yes, Steve, this has to do with the barley; I suppose previous year’s barley was used to make the unleavened bread. Wish we had some time to discuss this . . . Two special and specific things have taken place on this day, the giving of the covenant to Israel (a marriage with The Torah observant) and the giving of the Ruach another covenant relationship through Yeshua (a marriage and redemption through through Yeshua). The wheat harvest is something else to think about.
